Recent months have seen a number of shops cease trading in the town centre.

Gamesmart in Honey Lane closed it's doors within the last few weeks, as has Circa Radiators in St.Andrews Street, KDA Kitchens in Market Street and the art and craft outlet on the corner of Market Place and Honey Lane. The Bristol & West Building Society have also closed their Hertford branch.

Other closures in the town include La Ciboulette in Bircherley Green, which is currently being refurbished and will shortly open as The Waterfront. This particular site has a history of failed eateries due to it's location and lack of passing trade.

Another food outlet to open is sandwich shop Subway in The Wash, whilst Bagalettes in Bircherley Green are expanding into the former premises of DVD World.

The short-lived Mystique womenswear shop in Maidenhead Street has now become The Hertford Gift Company, whilst the premises formerly occupied by The Refectory are now trading as Room Service.

Pullem Optometrists have moved their operations from the Ware Road to Railway Street.

Finally, the Oxfam music shop Just Music has closed it's doors, although OxFest, the live music event organised by the shop, will still take place early next year.
