Goodbye Gravesons

Gravesons closing sale
Gravesons are to close their remaining shop in Market Place.

The housewares store continued trading after Gravesons department store closed in early 2001. Younger members of the Graveson family took over the business in recent years and decided that they had little interest in continuing the business. The premises are to become a sports store.

Nearby Sheba have relocated to premises in Railway Street, formerly occupied by Johns' butchers, which closed in Summer 2001.

Elsewhere in Market Place, the Oxfam Music Shop replaces the traditional charity shop in an effort to boost flagging sales and profits.

Serendipity Foods is a new delicatessen and coffee shop opening in Bircherley Green shopping centre on Saturday 15th March. The shop, which was formerly occupied by a charity, will sell a range of gourmet foods from around the world, including breads, cheeses, biscuits and patés. In addition, the shop will also serve cream teas and freshly ground coffee.

Floral Design Works in Railway Street has become Jo Kitteridge. The shop is one of a three Florists in the town. A fourth in Bircherley Green closed last year.

Café 2 Go will shortly be opening a new outlet at Hertford East station. Negotiations are also taking place for a similar facility at the town's North station.
