Thousands of visitors attended the town's annual free charity music festival, Rock at the Castle, on Sunday 5th August. The festival saw an estimated 10,000 visitors throughout the event from 12.30pm – 7pm, with musicians and bands performing across three stages.
The chosen charity to benefit from the event was Carers in Hertfordshire, whose dedicated volunteers raised £4472 on the day. It is a countywide charity based in Hertford supporting unpaid carers looking after a friend, neighbour or relative due to illness, frailty, mental health need, disability or substance misuse.
The charity provides support and services free of charge to all carers who live, work or care in the county of Hertfordshire and currently supports 25,000+ unpaid carers, including 1,332 children from any age to 18 years old. During 2017/2018 Carers in Hertfordshire provided intensive one to one support to 245 young carers and their families to reduce the negative impact of caring and ensure they have the same opportunities as their peers both educationally and socially.
Linda Cudmore, Community Fundraising Lead of Carers in Hertfordshire said: "Carers in Hertfordshire had a fantastic day at Rock at the Castle! Huge thanks goes to Hertford Town Council for deciding to support children looking after someone at home. Our Young Carers Service support children as young as 3 years old and provide whole family support."
Chairman of the Town Council's Development and Leisure Committee, Cllr Jane Sartin, said: "Staging Rock at the Castle is one of Hertford Town Council’s biggest undertakings of the year, so it was fantastic to see thousands of people enjoying the event. Thanks to everyone who played a part in its success, including the musicians who gave their time for free to perform."
