Sales of local newspaper The Hertfordhsire Mercury have fallen 20% in the twelve months to December 2018, according to new figures published by the Audit Bureau Of Circulation.

The drop comes after a 16% fall over the same period in 2017.
The total circulation for the Hertfordshire Mercury series was 7301, down from 9157 in 2017. Five years ago circulation was 17,854 (2013), meaning that sales are now less than half where they were in 2013.
The figures come as publisher Reach plc prepare to launch a new countywide news website based on the Mercury brand.
The Mercury closed its last Hertfordshire office in 2018 and is now run from the company's Essex newsroom in Chelmsford.
