Works to repair a falied sewer in Byde Street have closed the road for up to two weeks.

Together with the closure of The Wash and Mill Bridge in the town centre, this means that the only route in and out of Bengeo is via a circuitous route through Cowbridge, Old Cross, St.Andrew Street and Gascoyne Way.
Works in The Wash were scheduled to finish at the end of this week but have now been put back until 12th October, meaning the juction will have been closed for three weeks.

Many motorists seemed unaware of the closure. with traffic at the lower end of Byde Street being forecd to turn around or use Balfour Street to double back.
Affinity Water have apologised for the problems and estimate that work will be completed by Monday 15th October.

Some on social media have commented that stopping up Byde Street was a proposed solution to drivers using the road as a rat-run.
