The delayed reopening marks completion of phase two of the project, which sees a "refreshed changing village" and refurbished gym changing rooms.

The development entered its main construction phase last month when work to build the new two-storey extension - that will deliver additional studio space, a state of the art gym, new soft play facilities and terrace style café – began.  The front of the old building has now been completely demolished and a new temporary studio located in the rear car park whilst this final phase is completed.

Eric Buckmaster, executive member for wellbeing at East Herts Council, said: "I am delighted the newly refurbished swimming pool at Hartham Leisure Centre has re-opened for public use.  We now have a pool hall and modernised changing village, that will provide vitally important health and well-being facilities for Hertford residents and surrounding areas for many years to come.

"Phase three is already underway to construct the new two-storey extension with extra studio space, a state of the art gym, new soft play areas and a café and I look forward to seeing the completion of this major project next year."

Paul Lindsey, General Manager of Hartham Leisure Centre at Everyone Active said: "The Team have been very busy getting the swimming pool and changing village areas ready to re-open and we are delighted to open the doors today and welcome the return of swimming to Hartham Leisure Centre.

"Swimming lessons will also be starting again on Monday 23rd May and we are keen to welcome back the residents of Hertford and surrounding areas who can now enjoy a dip in the pool again."

The re-development programme for Hartham Leisure Centre is on track for completion by Summer 2023.
