A man suffered a black eye and swollen lip following an assault in Fore Street in the early hours of New Year's Day.
Police are now asking witnesses or anyone with information to come forward as their investigations continue.
The incident occurred around 1:30am on Saturday 1st January after a number of people were involved in an altercation in Fore Street.
Officers attended and a 20 year-old man was arrested at the scene. He has since been released under investigation whilst enquiries continue.
Detective Constable Sarah Meacock, who is investigating, said: "One person, a man in his 20s, sustained several injuries including a swollen lip and a black eye as a result of the altercation. Thankfully his injuries were not serious, and he did not require hospital treatment.
"It was reported that the incident started as a verbal altercation between a group of people, and as such we believe there may be several other people involved who may have made off from the scene prior to police arrival.
"It is likely that many people would have seen the incident taking place, and I would like to appeal to anyone who witnessed it or anyone who has any information to get in touch. Any information, even something that may seem relatively minor or insignificant, could be key to progressing our investigation.”
Anyone with information can contact DC Meacock directly via email at sarah.meacock@herts.police.uk.
