Christmas box-toppers unveiled

Monday 29 November 2021

The Secret Society of Hertford Crafters have again delighted the town with a collection of postbox toppers to celebrate Christmas.

The Society has yarnbombed 42 Royal Mail Postboxes with festive toppers - 28 in Hertford, 12 in Ware, 1 in Watton at Stone and 1 in Van Hage Garden Centre.

This year there is a surprise, as hiding inside each bauble is a miniature mouse-themed scene. Each scene can be viewed though a mouse hole, cut into the bauble. You may have to look hard and you might want to use a torch to see some of the amazing details inside each bauble.

"This is our 5th year of yarnbombing and it is an absolute joy to be a part of. For every project, we like to come up with something different and original and to challenge ourselves (and our members) to create something magical for the public to marvel at.", said the society's Anne Haworth.

The Secret Society of Hertford Crafters are a group of around 160 members who have a wide range of crafting skills; from novice knitters to capable crocheters, fabulous felters to quality quilters. Formed in January 2017, their installations have included the Poppy Cascade at Hertford Castle in 2018, an enchanted wonderland in Summer 2019, Hertford’s Advent Christmas Tree in 2019 and a joint venture with Scott’s Grotto in Summer 2021.
