Low Flying over Bengeo!

Who is that dip stick in the white plane with a red stripe down the body flying low and round and round over Bengeo today at about 3.45pm onwards, can some one tell him to get better lettering on his plane as the letters are still to small to read at 100 foot away![:D]

I think it's great. I loved watching that whilst sitting over at Hartham today.

The registration lettering on an aircraft is of mandatory size, designed to be read if the plane is 500 ft away (the legal requirement), if it was 100 ft away you'd definitely have been able to read the registration.

Hi SallyB This plane did not appear to have the usual Golf Fox-trot writing and numbers on the side of the plane but under the wing I could see small black writing about a quarter of the width of the wing say about a foot or smaller in size, perhaps someone flying these planes is getting wise to the complaints? I have thought about some well aimed rockets of the firework type but that would be a bit o.t.t.[}:)]

I think you may be under-estimating the height. 100ft straight up is very, very low. Even 500ft seems like it's on the deck when viewing aircraft from the ground. If you can't read your estimated foot high writing, it's unlikely to be as low as you think.

100ft is around 10 storeys. If he were that low over a residential area I suggest he'd be in danger of losing his PPL!

Ah! Some aircraft are exempt from displaying the 'Golf Foxtrot' type registration. If it didn't have that type of reg on it, maybe it was one of those.

There are a lot of aircraft flying over Bengeo today, all well above 100 ft I might add; I thought the gusts might have thwarted them somewhat. Intrepid aviatiors, the lot of them!

Hi I know that aircraft do fly this low and looking at it, it appears to be just about 100 foot away it was most probably flying at about 250 foot, they just sound and look nearer than they are, the worst offender I have ever seen over Bengeo was a jumbo it was that low I could see a women passenger looking at the wife and me and we could see her face clearly she had blonde hair and was about mid forties, so I will let you work out how close the plane was, we both needed a change of undies as this was just a few months after the twin towers N.Y. I nearly went home and was going to phone Stanstead and ask them what was going on but knowing what red tape I would encounter and being left hanging on the phone I had better things to do, we did wait for this plane to pass heading south towards London just to see if it was going to crash, this plane was loooow!

Red is extremely long and thin. It is as long as the distance it travelled, and as wide and as tall as the amplitudes of its wave components. Try a double-slit experiment some time, shunt [:D]

I never mentioned Schroedinger's pussy once! [8D] Witness credibility and reliability is a hot topic at the moment. Many people, through no intended deception, do not remember events as they actually occurred. When a solo male pilot made an emergency landing last year, witnesses were initially reporting hearing screams from his female passenger...[V] However, I'd strongly suggest if anybody does see any aircraft flying over Bengeo at 100 ft, or even 250 ft, they get photographic evidence and get these dangerous pilots out of the sky for all our sakes.

Hi when I saw this jumbo jet it was just a few weeks after the twin towers and I dont know if there was still some kind of security alert going on with the jets out of stanstead that makes them fly out of position in height ect. but this jet was low over the roof tops and I even saw the fat pilot that was flying the plane but I was so taken back and in shock that I did not even look for numbers or who owned the plane as I thought it was coming down, so as for having the presents of mind to grab a camera by the time I thought of that one it must have been well past the other side of london. All the best night owl

Its a routine event that non-aviators 'mis-interpret' (I will not use the term 'imagine')what they have seen and assume some kind of problem. I wish I had a pound for every local rag report of hot air balloons crashing in flames, just missing rooftops etc. etc. when its a routine landing in a field. By the time the emergency services have turned up, having been alerted by some well-intentioned but un-informed bystander, the balloonists are normally packed up and on their way to the pub...
