Local Pub Quizzes
I'm sure someone posted asking if anyone know of a Wednesday pub quiz. Can't find the original post so here goes....
The Old Barge
Every Wednesday in June (starting 6 June) - National Pub Quiz Night For the duration of the month)
4 Members per team
4 quizzes best 3 results qualify
Qualifying teams go on to the regional finals, then national finals.

We came in last night but sadly there were 5 of us so we didn't partake officially in the quiz as we couldn't decide who to leave out :-) Good fun though!

I've been asked to write questions for a possible pub quiz. What is the best format? How many rounds? How many questions? Picture rounds? How long should it last?
Any suggestions gratefully welcomed.

I've done a couple, quite time consuming, especially making sure your answer is verivied. (Didn't include spelling obviously) Make sure that it fits all the participants, all ages considered ie Misic question. Make them varied. Picture rounds are usually well received. If it's a local group then a local theme is good. No Einstien type questions, very off-putting. Sport is a reasonable topic. Something they can have in printed format so they can always come back to questions for debate. With a page for scribbling. And a quiz master with either a mike or a loud voice.

Having compiled pub quizes back in the dim and distant past, the best advice I can give is simply "Avoid ambiguity"
Yes, the quiz master has the last word and his or her decision is final - but it will save you an awful lot of grief if you can be 100% confident that YOUR answer is the RIGHT answer.
Oh, and always be sure to have a tie break question ready, just in case. Go for something where you are asking for the nearest to (without going over), for example, the length in inches of a jumbo jet. You would have to be truly bloody unlucky for two teams to give the same answer to that!
Above all else - have fun, and be sure to have a taxi booked and waiting outside for the moment the quiz ends, preferably with the engine running. [:D]

If its a local affair a picture round is good - ones I've attended included about 25-30 pictures of doorways in the town - could be shops, Hertford East or whatever. Another good one was shops with the signs airbrushed out and you had to name them.
I've always thought that the ideal quiz team needs to include the person who knows Greek mythology etc. but also the person who reads Hello magazine - I would suggest that your questions reflect that spread of interest.
