Hertford buses
Is anyone aware of the age that a child is classed as an adult on Hertfords buses ? My eleven year old travelled to town this morning with a grandparent and was asked how old she was . She was then advised by the driver that unless she carried a student pass, she would be charged the adult fare. We are not regular public transport users and have never come across this situation before.

We have had the same problem with our daughter now aged 13+. Because we have to travel regularly to Ware for an orthodontist we got a bus pass for her at age 11 which cost £5 (I think) and lasts until she is 14 (ie November when she is 14). Then you get another pass to last until 16 or end of full time education.
My wife was faced with the same situation. As half price fares are for school children it was quite obvious my daughter was not 16 when she tried for a half price fare at 11 and 12. But they still won't give you half price unless you have a pass. Common sense appears to have deserted some Arriva drivers.
I know there is a problem trying to guess ages especially when teenagers approach 16 and want cigarettes but passes for under 14's is a bit of overkill. But at £5 a time .....
