This coming Saturday Hertford entertain Barking in the first of their pre-season friendlies. It should make for quite an interesting game after we held them to a draw last season at their ground before they were promoted this season to the heady heights of National Division 2. Kick off is at 15.00 but the bar will be open from 12, so get yourselves up there and enjoy a beer or 8 in the sun whilst watching the rugby. By the way HRFC are definitely "Up Market"

I've been there Victor, I know some of the people connected with the club. I don't think they would describe themselves as Up Market. More your down to earth rugger types (mixed with the typical rugger beggars) and bringing rugby to the man on the street, so to speak. But definitely not Up Market in the traditional public school way. (Although quite a few steps above the Saracens Head, of course!) Anyway, it's still the cricket season, so rugby and kickball should be put aside for another month.

The Cricket will be on the big screen in dining room and on in the bar, there are roumers of a TV being installed in the Old F**t's bar as well. My god what will they think of that? So CP you are a member of HRFC are you?

I actually said that the Cricket will be on in the bar. That doesnt mean that you have to watch it. The TV shows sport all day up at the club, but the idea of going is to go and watch the rugby which im am sure you know lasts for 80 min, where as the Cricket will be on all day (Hopefully) I hope this answers your question. The Result was 12-10 to the good guys, "The Dogs" (as Barking like to call themselves) definitely went home with their tails between their legs!! There were few new signings absent, due to holidays ect and Justice stepped in initially for Alfie Church at 6, until replacing the new South African No 8, who was hospitalised, but looked very good from the start. Both new fly half's looked as if they have a lot to offer Hertford, as did the new scrum half. It was also good to see old boys such as Ben Storey and Doug Arber putting it about. Generally everyone that played put in 110% and looked more like they wanted the win than our visitors.. Thursday we have Letchworth kick off at 7.30.

I went last year..it was interesting overhearing the Pres saying they only set up a womans side so they could access lottery money!! same old rugger types. p.s I do enjoy the game, not the old farts

Dont forget that not all Old Farts have the same opinions. The Older generation have put many hours and a lot of effort in at HRFC to make it what it is today. Without them the club would probably not be where it is today. BTW Im a "young fart" not an old one. Incidentally, what exactly is a "same old rugger type"?

A shovel more like!!! But he is still a great Ambassador for the Club. If you ever have the oppotunity to see him speak at pre match lunches, more than often you will see the opposing teams President worring about having to follow JC.
