When it opened, I was impressed. But now, they make you wait half hour, even though you have booked. They try to cram 8 of you on a table for 6. they try to take your order three seconds after you have sat down. And they play the music at night club levels on a saturday. Strange. I didn't like the idea of it. But they won me over. Only to trash the reputation later on. I won't be going back.

if you don't diffuse Garlic too well, stay away from teh Lamb Rogan. Must have a whole bulb of the stuff in it. Easy to fish out though as it's in big chunks, but it's obviously infused it's flavour in to the food. Still tastes good though, just not condusive to getting anywhere near your partner when you get home!!

I absolutely love Bollywoods but more as a place to go on a Friday/Sat evening when I want something a bit more lively. I love the food personally and when I book I always ask for one of the round booths down the side however many of us there are. If they want your booking theyll put you where you where you want to be put! Ive personally always had a great time there - its meant to be slightly different and the loud music is great on the weekend when you want to get in the mood for a boogie afterwards. There are plenty of other Indians to choose from in Hertford that are quieter if you want peace and quiet.

I liked Bollywoods. It certainly the place to go for a large group. It’s very lively at the weekend. The décor and music is not the usual curry house fare. It’s a tad more neon and ‘bling’ (they have the best champagne selection of any restaurant in Hertford in my opinion [not a great combo though]). I have never noticed it being greatly more or less expensive that Shah or Tikka Cottage. Whenever I have a chicken shashlic (not too exotic I know) Bollywoods is by far the biggest, tastiest and the best. Service is always great and I never feel rushed to leave. There is an older chap (manager / owner?) that I find very helpful when I have gone with people not too accustomed to ordering Indian food. One thing I don’t like is the bill; it’s always scrawl and I can never tell if service is added or if everything is on there. I have never asked but does anyone know?

I agree with everything you said Avarice. I love it and have never had a bad experience at all but i go there knowing its a slightly livlier place to eat. Which is the point I think. Ive been there many times and asked them what they recommend, tell them my likes and dislikes and they have come up with some lovely dishes to try - this way I step out of my 'Ill have a chicken korma or tikka massala please' - such a bore....

I have eaten in every Hertford Indian (except the Raj which from reports on here I will try sooner or later) and it’s actually my favourite Indian. I like the hustle and bustle of the place as when I go for Indian I just don’t associate them with an intimate dining experience.

Same here. I havent eaten in many Indian establishments. I do like the takeaway in parliament square that Nora Batty suggested. I think thats a gorgous Indian, cant think of the name now - Bismallih or something....! Sorry admin off topic as this should only be about Bollywoods and ooops I seem to have agreed with someone about their opinions - thats 2 strikes for me (sorry avarice just making a point..)

WILL NOT BE RETURNING! Managed to mess up the main course order and then insisted that is what we had asked for! Overpriced, average food, with average service by smug, arrogant, rude waiters. The final insult was they then tried to add an extra fiver on to a charge card and were not particularly apologetic about it. When the Manager intervened he was so rude, he almost got a slap. Apart from the company, I wish that I had stayed in with a microwave curry from Sainsbury's!

Each to their own but all establishments can have bad nights. I wouldnt want to return either had it been that bad but Im happy to say Ive only ever had a fantastic time there and until such a time when I have a bad evening out in Bollywoods I will always recommend it...

I have not returned following our first attempt to eat there. When I went to Bollywoods I had the following experience; 1) They had over booked. 2) They had taken our booking as one for 9 people instead of just the 4. 3) Despite point 2 above they had given our table to someone else. 4) They ignored us in the entrance/bar area for 40 minutes. 5) They failed to communicate to us what was happening. We only found out that they had given our table away as I went to their book where they note the bookings and our name was crossed through. 6) We left and went to the Shahenshah. They were rude, arrogant and displayed no appreciation of customer service.

My experience was similar to Victor's and Ewoowar's. As a large group, the last place I would go would be here because with the loud music, you cannot here yourself think, let alone talk. The service was poor, with food orders wrong and drink orders taken then not arriving. The larger the group, the worse it is. Waiters were rude, manager worse. Only consolation was that my food was very tasty. We only use the Shah or Bismillah (for deliveries) now.

Must agree with victor! Over priced! Over rude staff feels like they taking the p*** out of you! Will never go back! Been 3 times now not really enjoyed any of them! Manger is rude to the point of all most coming to blows! People never go there!

always found bollywoods cheesy(not the food)beyond belief. seems only to be busy at midnight on the weekends. go for the atmosphere, but not the food. p

Just need to look at their pub for customer service, then I don't expect you can have customer service with no customers!

I enjoy a good blast of loud music, but not when I am with a group of friends out for an evening, trying to talk to each other. Is the music turned to loud to cover the sounds of customers complaining....... [:X]
