Our blue top bin was emptied yesterday, I thought it would reduce the amount of litter on our streets...the trail of plastic containers behind the dust cart was awful! They stopped to pick up only a small amount, the remainder left to the wind to blow around! Disgusting!

Ours have been emptied this morning but I did notice a number of the had their lids blown open by the wind, must be the design of the bin. Could mean stuff blows out before they are collected as well as during?

Also, the brilliant design of the lid which means it collects a pool of water on it waiting to spill all over you when you move it!! How hard can it be to design a sensible bin lid?!

Perhaps the lid's "water well" is not a design flaw but an ingenious method of adding weight to stop the lid blowing open. Oh hang on a minute, that didn't work did it! [:D]

I was also wondering if they empty the bin with the mechanical lift at the back of the lorry, there must be an awful lot of broken glass, so I was wondering how they manage to sort the glass from the rest of the rubbish, any ideas ?

Slightly out of date video but gives you an idea of the process...
