I use the word options quite deliberately so as not to suggest that any formal policy or planning application is in place for Stansted. It's more of an organised brainstorming session IMHO. The relevant paragraph from the report is: "The commission will then shortlist those [options] it wants to take forward for further consideration by the end of the year, before making recommendations to Government in 2015." There are many commentators who have said that even after the process is complete it's very possible that nothing will be done because all of the options are too controversial. The whole issue of airport capacity has been rolling around for decades and governments of various hues, authorities, operators and communities have been wrestling with what to do and agreeing on very little. As always, never get your news from just one source and be wary of agendas and spin.
