Who wrote this article? Tim Messenger? Did the pilot knock the church roof off on the way down? Did they narrowly avoid the school?

It was described as a 'crash landing' which seems like a fair description to me. Maybe it was one of the few things the Mercury actually got right on their first attempt at reporting the story [:)]

As the aircraft still appears to be in one piece I would suggest 'forced' landing is more accurate but obviously less 'newsworthy'.

Emergency landing would also suffice, but I feel crash landing describes it well, at least all the locals can then count their lucky stars that it didn't belly flop on their house.......thats the next front page story for the Mercury [:D]

I saw this plane flying roughly due South over Hertford yesterday. I could clearly hear it was having engine problems, but had no idea it was about to come down. As Forbes says, very lucky the pilot managed to glide down to a field rather than somewhere more populated!
