The War Memorial
Sitting outside Cafe Rot yesterday couldn't help noticing that the War Memorial gives the dates for WW1 as 1914-1919. Why the extra year?
Also anyone know what "Laus Deo" the inscription means?

The Great War did not actually finish in 1918, that was merely when an armistice was signed. The war with Germany (as opposed to the other enemy states) was concluded at the Treaty of Versailles in 1919.
A modern translation of "Laus Deo" would be something like "Praise be to God".

Maybe because official football didn't start again until 1919 [;)]
