A lot of people were very sceptical about the wisdom of elected Police & Crime Commissioners. David Lloyd is trying very hard to prove their point. I naively thought the PCC was supposed to represent and "speak for" the electorate. It appears that he feels incabable of even speaking for himself!

This is really insane isn't it. I mean we are in the midst of a huge economic mess, facing cut backs, wages freezes, redundancies, etc, yet somehow we have enough money not only to create all of these PCC roles, but we also have enough money to fork out £75k for these people to tell us what they are doing. I must be living in a parallel universe. This is the problem with local or regional politics though, they cannot stop growing and spending.

It is insane and ridiculous - unless of course he wants to offer me the job - in which case it could be seen as an "essential role to provide effective communication links and ensure the public's views are properly represented to the PCC executive while it continues to concentrate on the practical provision of service excellence by our local policing professionals". Isn't that the sort of "information" these PR types would trot out? Go on giz-a-job.

Having worked in the public sector for a long time I am well used to some of these crazy buzzwords and yet I still do not have a clue what they actually mean or deliver substantively. What I would like to know is what tangible benefit do any of these roles provide? How can we measure how successful they are, and to what extent have they really improved the wellbeing of the average person on the street. Rather than using all of this mumbo-jumbo it would be refreshing for someone to actually tell us or show us what difference having this role makes. I can think of one difference, we will be £75k poorer (plus the cost of the benefits, plus the employer's NI etc). How did we ever survive without a PCC and their PR guru?????
