Several years ago there was discussion about the Hertford and Ware Police Station being closed/sold off and local stations being created in more central areas of Hertford and Ware. Was this plan kicked into the long grass or is it still a possibility? Having the police stations more local to the town centres might improve things simply by a more visible presence.

I live very close to the police station. The local council want to/are building some kind of daycare centre in the "green triangle" at the tip of the site. As far as building two seperate police stations the problem is probably one of site availability, a huge part of the station is given over to car parking, I can't see them being able to get similar sites in central Hertford or Ware with that amount of space. I can see them truing to flog the land to a supermaket/property developers though and using the money to try and get a green field site somewhere else. Although I think the daycare centre might scupper this plan (?)

I think that 2 stations would not actually work. They deploy to both towns at the moment If it were a Hertford/Ware divide I don't think they could be as efficient as they are at present. More Bobbies is what they need. It's not Heartbeat at the end of the day - this is real Policing

Cheers. I had a feeling when we moved that the land value might prove very tempting to the Police authority. Coming soon two shiny new police stations and a load of new "luxury" apartments. Not sure where they're going to park all the cars though

"Even if we stayed on site, we would knock down the station. The current buildings are reaching the end of their useful life." So what about all those victorian schools , the building is not so old, more tax payers money to be wasted.

Because it's not Victorian it's 60s & 70s - and we know how well public building were built then.

Whne this plan was originally muted, there was talk abot the police and Tescos in Hertford "doing a swap". The gain is Tescos get a much bigger plot and therefore a much bigger store, and the police get a town centre location. Wherever the staion ends up, they'll need somewhere with lots of parking which will limit their options. The thought of a Tescos in Stanstead / Ware Road just doesn't bear thinking about in terms of congestion, as well as being next door to a school.

Why will a police station needlots of parking? Cheshunt police station doesn't have much in the way of parking.

Hertford has a motor vehicle workshop as well as a lot of admin / back office people working there.

With the talks of merging Police forces together, "to save costs" i would have thought that we will end up with less Stations,less officers, and civilian staff as they are re-organised by yet more unelected and unaccountable bodies more than likely based miles outside the county.

What is prejeducial about my comments ?. Fact - It has been widely reported in the press that the Home Secetary wants forces to merge. Fact - As with any merger a full review will be held of what resources are needed, and where they should be located. Fact - Hertfordshire Police Authority will cease to exist, and whatever replaces it will be less accounbtable if at all. Just look at the East Of England Assmembly - totally unelected and unaccountable to anyone.

Put the site to better use! There is a lot of space there; I think it would be a shame to let it go to any large store or god forbid more housing! do we want more people or more for OUR people?! There must be something more constructive, more inspired that they can do with all that room! We say that we are sick of "yobs" tiring around the town because they have nothing better to do, why not grasp this opportunity to give them some where to go! A youth centre, exhibition hall with gardens etc .....? A multi purpose venue that will benefit the whole town!

I think if they did have a cinema there there would be a big problem with parking and judging by the fact that the site behind Tesco that was originally to be used for the cinema was scraped because people who live in the few houses around that area did not want to look out and see that from their windows, there for I do not think that the police station site would be a viable location. Plus it would be a one trick pony, we need somewhere that the whole community can uses.
