Artwork

Good evening, Hertford! I've just registered with the forum, so I'm looking forward to contributing to the discussions and reading all the updates on our town! [8D] I'm a local Urban Landscape artist who has just graduated from University. I've took part in a few exhibitions around London + Northamptonshire, but I haven't really promoted myself locally as of yet. I'll leave a link to my website at the bottom, so you can see and read about what I do! Anyway, if there's any art fans on here, it'd be great to have a chat on the subject in this thread. Here's my site: www.jackmorris.org If you like my artwork (or know someone who might!) then I'd appreciate it if you could spread the word, just for a bit of local exposure!! I understand it might not be to all of your likings, but opinion is what makes art so unique! [:)]

Nice pictures of the Olympic Stadium. This could be construed as an advert. Have you thought about running a youth art day? Courtyard Arts might be interested.

I like the images. But are they in any way representative as the stadia in the artwork are surrounded by buildings, which is not how they are. Artistically it doesn't matter......great images.........are you Hertford based? Why not create work based on Hertford? Perhaps work with the mediator of the forum here and use, with his permission of course, some of his aerial images of the town.........just an idea.

Hi Ewoowar, thanks for the feedback & yes, you're spot on regarding the Wembley/Olympic paintings. The reasons I made up the surrounding areas were purely for artistic purposes, and to create a more compacted composition; there was far too much empty space around the OS for me to convey the atmosphere I really desired. Additionally, the manner in which I work requires spontaneity and an almost subconscious approach to applying the ink. Therefore, by creating my own buildings, it meant I did not have to keep referring to a photograph to accurately portray the landscape - but instead, gave me the freedom to create a free-flowing image, with the license to retain the abstracted, almost 'medieval map' style, that I prefer. Nonetheless, I've made attempts to ensure I made some references to the locality - in the Wembley painting you may be able to pick out both Wembley Way + Wembley Arena. Whilst in the Olympic Stadium painting, I've made subtle references (albeit out of scale) to both the Velodrome + ArcelorMittal Orbit sculpture. I am from Hertford, and I have been thinking about creating a piece dedicated to our town, most likely with Hertford Castle playing a key role in the composition! I appreciate your tip :) James007 - Thanks for the advice. I am hoping to exhibit at Courtyard Arts in the near future, and when I do so I will enquire about that possibility!

I think an exhibition using both locally based works and others would go down well in Hertford and would be well supported.

If you would be interested in getting involved in community youth projects I'm doing some work in that area at the moment that you could get involved in.

Jack will be exhibiting 3 pieces of his work at Arthaus Galleries in St Andrew Street from this weekend. The gallery will be opening its doors for the first time on Saturday 13th and holding wine tasting on Sunday 14th presented by The Vine Shop as part of the Hertford Food and Drink Festival. There is plenty of other things going on over at Beckwith Antiques with Clover Kitchens and John Coopers both holding cookery demonstrations throughout the afternoon.
