Apple Maps - Satellite Views of Hertford
Is it just my iPod being rubbish or is it the reportedly rubbish Apple Maps app' that frustratingly ceases to provide a satellite view of any reasonable magnification just north of Hoddesdon?
I just wondered if the veiws of Hertford were any more up to date that those on Google Earth which still show the put-up paddling pool thingy in my back garden from about 6 years ago!

The photos are terrible... I recall that Google had similarly bad maps when they started up but they were soon replaced with higher quality ones. Given the PR disaster that this new maps app has caused Apple, I suspect they'll be rushing out some improvements as quickly as they can. Friends that rely on the maps (I don't) are refusing to update to IOS 6 until it gets sorted.

There's a google map app pending in the app store anyway. As soon as thats released then you can all go back to the google maps!
The onus is on Apple to release that app. They can't legally refuse it, so we'll see how long they artificially delay it!

Everything core will still use Apple's own offering though, and you won't be able to change that.

ah right, thats interesting. A lot of misinformation out there then! I must admit I was surprised that google had one ready - it makes sense for them to provide one at some point, but not just yet. Make the apple users stew first.

Why would Google bother with a niche market? iPhones only represent 17% of the smartphone market anyway. [}:)]

Hertford now makes an appearance with latest IOS update but with apparently identical (old) images to Google Earth/Maps.
