Which is best Chinese in Hertford, Peking or Paddyfields? Haven't been to either in a while.

Went to Paddyfields a couple of months back having always had a reasonable meal there. For a Friday night, it was very quiet. About a third full. Food was ok in that it was good value for money. Went past about 9.30 two Fridays ago and there was just one couple in there! Now that never used to be the case. So something must not be right!

I think they both need revitalising. They serve what we expect. Take us somewhere different; black bean this, sizzling that. While the revenue comes in we will remain as customers of Chinese restaurants that exist in that 'belt' around London. I don't think either of them would brave the challenge of a more contemporary or challenging 'Chinese' menu.

Not in Hertford, but I can tell you that the China Red in Ware is very very good (in my opinion). In fact, we go there for take away - because we haven't found anywhere that comes close in Hertford.

ldaniels - you should try Ocean Palace takeaway in Hoddesdon, they deliver to Hertford. gotta be Paddyfields for me instead of Peking House. Staff are really friend at Paddyfields plus the food is awesome.

Tried them all fairly recently. Wok u like came out on top for me. Tasty, quick service, polite and most importantly, the least greasiest. But, a restaurant is only as good as its chef, if he or she leaves and the food goes downhill I'll go elsewhere. Some people will eat from the same restaurant for years with blinkers on just because that's where they always get their Indian/Chinese/Thai from. Mix it up a bit! You might find its not that good after all.

That's precisely what I did gregb, used to use Wok-U-Like back in the day, then switched to Ocean Palace and never been back to Wok-U-Like since.

Wok-u-like are very quick but almost worryingly so. I refuse to believe that chicken chow mein, egg fried rice, sweet & sour chicken balls and chilli beef can be cooked from fresh in five minutes flat, but that's how long it took to arrive. Conclusion: Probably not fresh Result: My chicken balls were pink inside

Well they were piping hot inside so I knew they were cooked, but the speed at which they arrived combined with the pinkness of the meat suggests to me that Mr. Microwave was probably involved in the "cooking" process.
