A shame but it's too small a niche for a town the size of Hertford IMHO. I would imagine having Subway nearby doesn't help.

The Hitchin shop was sold a few weeks ago. The Hertford shop may still on the market but it will be closed in the next few weeks.

This will be a real shame - I enjoy a "Steak & Stilton" pastie most Saturdays. They are expensive - but to me worth it - as they are tastier than the likes of Gregg's etc.

...we'll I've started buying the "hand crimped" ones from Waitrose now the Proper Cornish Pastie Shop has closed. The Waitrose ones are only £1.69 - about half the price of the "proper" ones (although you have to cook them yourself). They are quite tasty - I have noticed the Waitrose website does "Steak & Stilton" - my favourite. I rang the store last week and asked if the Hertford branch could start stocking them (they only have Cornish and Cheese & Onion at the moment). The Greggs pasties are not really in the same league.
