Free room 'hire'

It's been a while, however fate has brought me to it. I need a room in a pub for a mid-week evening. One where there's no hire charge - we'll be buying booze, I promise - and where you can hear a conversation properly. Normally, it's upstairs in the WH. However, with all the changes in recent history I have no clue whether one can still informally book a room, or (given the WH thread) civil volume levels don't exist up there anymore. The Fuller's site says it's a 'hiring' situation, but then the phone number they give doesn't work, so who knows what's correct. Any thoughts much appreciated!

We joined the Hertford Club for £60 (i think) and then you get the venue for free. Terry is a really lovely man.

I would also like to say that it was a fab night, they organised a hog roast, great service.

I can say that The White Horse is still very much in the room hiring business (despite recent uncertainties) And for free far as I can see. Upstairs (& indeed, in the main downstairs) will be conducive to civilised conversation. The phone situation is a (I hope) temporary pain - basically no land-line but pop in & they will sort. Pub is still good although Fullers are trying one's patience. A post on that thread is well overdue methinks As an aside I agree that Terry at the club is a top guy (& a fellow Hammer) He will do all he can to help and as far as I can see keeps the place going pretty much single handed. Just a pity the club is in such a shambolic state; sorry Louis but I decided my £60 would be better spent this year. Maybe Fullers are involved there as well.... [V]

Thanks for all your responses. I forced myself to go into WH for a drink with friends (hard life I lead) and got the date I wanted in their diary. Easy as pie, no charge, very helpful.
