Homes plan for Waters site
A planning application has been submitted for homes on the former Waters Garage site in North Road.

Ah, that explains why the car wash plans didn't get off the ground. The water supply for the pressure washers was fitted months ago but it was never used in anger then vanished a couple of weeks ago. Housing will look better than a deteriorating garage forecourt on that site. It's getting very scruffy, mural notwithstanding.

Equal portions of steel, pine & plastic then....
To think that architects used to design things once upon a time.
They probably spend more time colouring in the artists impressions now...

There was a gentle evolution to the development of towns which has been superseded by large scale developments with the sole objective of maximising properties per cubic metre at minimum cost.
Perhaps it's just the conformity of the designs and the lack of character -my own opinion of course - but I stand in front of the riverside development at Hartham and wonder what they were thinking.
I should imagine the derelict properties in the old photos of Hertford would be worth a fortune now if they'd been renovated. They're normally featured in the course of Peter Ruffles' slide shows as the character of the town that is now lost to the likes of Toothbrush Towers, the Bircherley Green development and so on.
But I shouldn't mix contemporary design with nostalgia.
I just hope the design for the Waters development doesn't mirror the awful square glass, steel & plastic building opposite.
