Hertford North wildlife
I just walked uphill across the bridge over the railway line and heard some rustling behind the spiky fencing, had a look and a small muntjac (foal perhaps) was staring at me. Seen a few badgers around there (once cutting through our garden) but never deer. Quite nice to see, I hope they keep away from the track!

We often see muntjac on the footpath that runs behind Millmead School, they appear quite tame, and just walk away when you get close.
I agree its a lovely sight.

Agreed. I think there might be a family of muntjac deer in Redwoods just off of Duncombe Rd. I've seen them a few times just standing by the road.

Noticed, in the snow last week, the number of animal tracks alongside both railway lines - they appear to be something of a nature superhighway. Probably more reliable for them than they are for us mere humans.... [:)]

I see a lot of muntjac in Bengeo, we even have them come in the garden, also foxes of course and my neighbour says a badger though I have never seen one.
There are a lot around. Saw a dead badger this morning at the side of a road just outside the town and that always upsets me!

When it gets really bitterly cold, we sometimes find a fox in the garden looking out for the bread we put out for the birds and bits of bacon fat. I also spotted a red kite skimming around, the other birds and larger crows and magpies scarpered at that.. Can't say I blame them!

Some bacon fats are not good for wild birds......

I used to put all bacon fats out during winter until I read about the dangers of salt to birds.
