Does anyone know of an environmentally friendly way to dispose of video tapes (blanks)? And where is our nearest PET plastic recycling depot? By the way - I'm over my sulk now...

Welcome Back Nora, Are the Video Tapes unused ones ?, If So I'm sure one of the charity shops could make a few quid. The Nearest place I know of for plastics is Sainsbury's at Hoddesdon. This is something I wish we had in Hertford and Ware.

I'll sort out the unused ones. I wonder if the energy saved by recycling plastic is greater than or equal to the energy spent getting them to Hoddesdon? I'm having a bit of a crack down on plastic carrier bags too. On a Greek island I visited all tourists were given an undyed cotton shopping bag on arrival to discourage them from using plastic carriers. They were paid for by the Hotels, in return for advertising on them. Wouldn't this be a great idea to adapt for Hertford? May be the Council could start it off by getting them sponsored by a local firm and then launching the project at the Farmer's Market? Sloop?

Nice link, but "No facilities for recycling video tapes for householders in Herts". And I'm a bit worried about what might be on my blanks, so don't really want to give them to charity shops.

Duly went to the re-cycling bins near Matalan last weekend. Cans were everywhere as the bins were overflowing - not even a Bank Holiday. What is the incentive if when you get there you can't use the things. I'm sure more people would if they didn't consider it a waste of time. [:(]

This recycling point is always filling up. I've reported it to EHDC before but not alot seems to have changed.

The Mercury can almost see the mess from their offices. I'm surprised they haven't run a story on it.

I find that the Hartham Lane bottle, clothes and paper banks are rarely overflowing. You might have to dodge a few harmless skateboarders though(who do some fantastic stunts off the top of them - an added bonus if you happen to be there at the right time)

There's also a recycling point at the end of Post Office walk by the Gascoyne Way multi-storey (use the car park spur road if you're driving).

Thats handy to know there is recycling there. My next recycle run is going to have to be done in the dark.....its embarassing the amout of bottles we have I know how you feel - I've found the best thing to do is mumble loads about the great party you had last night [:D]

I always take bottles round the back of County Hall....think I'm the only person who ever uses it.

errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr....follow the road that goes to the county hall car parks at the back of the building...bottle bank there.

I always assumed public use...it's on a public road. maybe the state of me when i'm doing my bit put any Jobsworths off.
