Four of us went there last night at 10.15pm, just for a round of drinks (2 bottled beers and 2 vodka and lemonades). Music was loudish but bearable, not sure I would want to stay in an hotel room though. There were no more than 30 people in the bar area downstairs, no-one on the sofas, and the exclusive £5 area upstairs looked like it was virtually empty. £16 lighter, we left. Same old, same old.

I agree James, a bar needs to be more than just available space and a DJ to make it. One good thing it does have going for it is Richard, Hertford's best cocktail mixer (ex-HHH) and all round good egg. For that reason and the good of the town as a whole, I hope it finds it's feet.

I've bumped this up as I'd be interested in any recent comment on the Saloon Bar. How are things there now? Has anyone got any review after staying at the hotel?

Not having been here since it was the Masters House, thought I would give it a go with 2 friends on Saturday night for a cocktail or 2. What a disaster! Walked into the mostly empty bar at about 6.45, except for a group of people at the bar, with 2 young children screaming! Most tables were reserved for later on and so empty, we decided to stay as the gaggle of "waitresses" I use the term loosely as they just happened to be a group of 3 or 4 girls going under the title said that the children would soon be going. The "waitresses" were standing around gossiping and laughing to each other, we asked if they did table service, and they said only for food so refused to get any drinks for us - I went to the bar for the drinks. We ordered a round of cocktails - Kir Royal - firstly I had to ask for a clean glass, as the glass was lipstick and water stained. To add insult to injury the champagne was warm. The margarerita was warm and barely had any salt around the rim of the glass. The mojito was OK. The Kir Royal was £7.50, the Margarita and Mojito in the region of £6.50-£6.95. We were 3 ladies in our mid to late 40s, perhaps we arent the type of clientel they would wish to attract, I was going to complain on the night, but my friends said it wasnt worth it. On reflection, I now disagree. I certainly wont be going back and will email the Saloon to inform them of my opinons.

Hi Shiraz Oh dear, this is not boding well. I have a "night out" with the same age of friends in two weeks' time. I wouldn't put up with this type of service neither. I shall discuss with my colleagues as to whether an alternative venue maybe in order...

I would definitely think about going elsewhere. I am all for supporting local business especially non chains but this establishment has no plus points or style at all. Obviously I didnt eat there. I emailed them this morning to complain, I havent had a reply yet. I'll let you know if I do!
