Mercury errors

We know the Mercury keep an eye on the forum do you think if we point out errors they may be a bit more careful in proof reading. I was interested to see the 3012 Hertford Calender is being produced, I don't think any of us will be around to use it!

Could this be one of the Mercury's best stories ever! Published: 07/11/2011 09:37 - Updated: 07/11/2011 09:49 No-one hurt in two-car collision on B1502By Catherine Lofthouse A TWO-CAR collision has occurred on a notorious road between Hertford and Great Amwell. The cars were in collision on the B1502 at its junction with Hoe Lane just before 9am this morning (Monday November 7). The East of England Ambulance Service checked three people at the scene, but no-one needed to go to hospital. Herts Highways has been called to deal with oil spilled on the road

I noticed this yesterday and almost shared it with colleagues simply because of the banal non-story that it is. Then I realised that sharing such a cr@p nothing of a story would be replicating the Mercury............so I kept my gob shut.

I think the Mercury website really lacks something, they often report an issue but dont follow it up. Not a good souce for local newss - Hertford.net forum is miles better

Here is a new one. Standon Calling, a great festival that I have been to twice has a link on their website from the reporter Sara Greek referring to this years event. Now known as Standon-Hearing if you want 'early bird' tickets. http://www.hertfordshiremercury.co.uk/Hertfordshire/Early-bird-tickets-for-Standon-Calling-2012-on-sale-25112011.htm Hello? Hellloooo?

What did The Mercury say when you contacted them to point out the error?

To answer your question Steve: I already have, and I stopped buying the paper years ago when it became an advertising rag for estate agents. The journalist has not even got the name of Graham Macavoy right! What annoys me most is that Standon Calling (not Hearing) is a major supporter of a serious charity and that wasn't even mentioned, along with the awards the event has won. I can't even call it lazy journalism as it is very, very poor. Why couldn't the journalist just copy and paste the web site? It is that simple. Even Ewoowar can do that. [:)] The Editor of the publication would have no doubt read it, signed it off and allowed it to be published. He or she is accountable for this which has still not been corrected at just after midday, today, Saturday 26th. Hertford.net seems to be the place to 'buy' news these days. I wonder how long it will be before The Mercury goes the same way as The Herald. The Editor, Deputy Editor and others are accountable for many of the errors that appear in the paper. Here is a link to the contacts of the website for those that can be bothered to complain: http://www.hertfordshiremercury.co.uk/Hertfordshire/Early-bird-tickets-for-Standon-Calling-2012-on-sale-25112011.htm
