Case of the missing Bottle Banks?
Anyone know why the bottle banks have been removed from Hartham Common and the Matalan car park? I noticed they'd moved the paper banks to the other end of the car park at Hartham but not much use when I have a load of bottles to get rid of.

A lot of them around the town have been removed as a result of the success of the home recycling initiative - according to a notice where the bottle banks used to be at Sele Farm.
I believe they still have them at the main waste sites - Cole Green Way etc.

I noticed they have gone from other sites too, such as the Tesco at Church Langley in Harlow.

I also thought that some bins were removed because of the cost to East Herts Council (some of the charity bins???)But didn't realise the recycling ones had gone too! Not sure that's a good idea. Hartham has a large amount of visitors who have cans of drink etc and I would have thought it would have been a good incentive for people to deposit their used bottles/cans/plastic bottles in their after use??

I had the same problem finding clothing banks a few months back ,for a few weeks there were none around Hertford and then gradually they started appearing again.

But that one is, more often than not, full to overflowing, it seems to not get cleared as often as it needs

"From June 2011 the Council is removing glass, can and plastic recycling banks from its recycling sites. These materials can be recycled through the kerbside or at the Household Waste and Recycling Sites." Source: http://www.eastherts.gov.uk/index.jsp?articleid=16856
If you conduct a search on WasteAware you'll find that glass can still be recycled at County Hall.
