Hertford Rugby Club Season 2011-2012

If you follow local rugby you will know that Hertford were promoted to National League 2 South at the end of last season. A good pre-season game agaist Southend was lost by one point, both teams scoring six tries and having a good work-out. Thursday evening is the second warm up against local rivals Bishops Stortford, should be fun! The competitive season starts on the 27th August at Hoe Lane against Henley Hawks.

Henley Hawks up at Hoe Lane with a 3pm KO. Stepping up a division but Hertford should have what it takes.

Not a great result as Hertford lost 29-45 to Henley, but a very good game to watch. Away to Lydney next week, hoping for a better result.

A lot of points on the board and a bit more fluidity from the visitors. It was good to pull a few points back towards the end of the second half though. Roll on next week.

Where have all the supporters gone? A very disappointing turn out this Saturday to support Hertford RFC considering the size of the crowds last season. Have a couple of losses dampened the local supporters enthusiasm? Those who were there witnessed a very exciting game and Hertford's first win of the season. Next week they entertain Southend in the league, a team we have not squared up against for several season. It should prove to be another excellent game. k/o @ 15.00.

Not been up there yet this season. Work and weekend trips have conspired against me. Looking at the O.A.s game for my seasonal debut. Two thoughts though: a) Barnes don't have any supporters. Remember going down there last season? b) Maybe the greater distance to travel puts people off from going to away games.

I don't think the attendance is affected very much by results. It's the start of the season, people are still in summer mode with busy weekends while the weather is good. I'm a massive advocate of helping those who are learning the game by getting them to watch it played at a good level and close up. Get them up to their own club on a Saturday before their own training and matches on a Sunday. Get the mums and dads with them. "Watch the prop", "watch the hooker", "watch the realignment".............but definitely enjoy the atmosphere and the match. If we get 20% of the minis players there on a Saturday with just a single parent there would be about 300 spectators from the minis alone. I know it's not easy. I hardly make it up there but my lad goes more often than I. And we're in silly season with birthday parties. Perhaps the club should set a day for maximum attendance. Let's set a date and encourage all players of all ages to attend. Let's see how many we can get up there.

Viewing the attendance stats for our league we'd give our eye teeth for a league position as high a our crowd rankings - Barnes are bottom of both I agree that the crowds will build as the winter sets in and the other distractions go away. See you on Saturday Victor!

Big game on Saturday (3pm kick off) v Launceston (aka the cornish all blacks). Bit of a need to win match for Hertford. Come along and add some support, the lads need it this year.

Sitting here in Spain; thought I'd just have a quick click onto the Hertford RFC website to check this afternoon's result. I was expecting an "oh well, they've got all the resources ..." etc feeling when I read about our plucky defeat, especially in view of the game at Hoe Lane earlier in the season. But NO!!! What a great result! Well done chaps; nice quiet coach journey home I expect.
