Sally B, (USAF B17 WWII Bomber) flew over the football in the first half, the Fiesler Storch from Shuttleworth flew over at about 50kts during half time and an autogyro flew over in the second half. Quite a good spot for observing unusual aircraft.

Two more aircraft flew over Bengeo this morning, both heading roughly South. Both looked like WW2 military, possibly USAF. Pretty certain they weren't the B17 as neither was a four engine job.From the quick glance I got, the first one had high wing profile, and it may have just been the angle, but seemed to have an odd engine configuration. Anyone know what they were? (Should think Sally B would identify them if she's in Hertford today)

The high wing aircraft was a Catalina flying boat, didn't see the other one unfortunately.

Love flying boats. Such a simple solution to world travel before the age of airports. Sally B was last seen beating up a small child in Castle Grounds(no need to call social services, it was on one of those inflatable pugilist things and all harmless fun).

My housesitter told me tonight that Sally B flew over Hertford yesterday! Haven't checked but not surprised if she did!

Was away this weekend bu my flatsitter told me that Sally B flew over again. He is an aviation enthusiast but still doesn't guarantee 100% accuracy.

Have absolutely no idea, but it flew over our garden right in the middle of my 3 year olds birthday party. Had our friends and family very impressed that he had his own little fly past!!!

That is a Douglas C47 Dakota, the planes they used in "Band of Brothers" If anyone sees a De Havilland Mosquito fly over let the CAA know, the last flying UK example crashed in 1996, killing the crew. There are two examples that may fly this year, one in Canada and one in NZ.

Yes indeed remember the day well, tragic. Sad waste. The one which went to the States was sadly abused. The Mosquito was in my opinion the most beautiful aircraft ever, and the most effective in WW2. The Germans counted a Mosquito as 2 'kills' if they ever brought one down. I am slightly biased of course since my father flew them.

I would love to see and hear a Mossie flying. Second favourite aircraft, Hawker Typhoon is number one and I won't get to see one of those fly either.

Yes nothing like twin Merlin's. I wouldn't be surprised if a Mossie does fly again over here. There are several in reasonable condition at the Mosquito Aircraft Museum in London Colney, but this museum regularly has to pilfer their collection in order to keep the BAe Mossie flying. When it crashed they lost everything. Haven't flown from Duxford for a long time so I'm not sure what they are restoring there now. I thought at one time they were doing a Beaufighter but not heard much since. Typhoon was a fantastic beast but I guess the Napier Sabre engine would be a nightmare to maintain.

The Beaufighter has been on the mend for many, many years. I am going to Duxford this week, may take a picture to keep you up to date.
