We went to the piano cafe for morning coffee/early lunch today. I would award it level 5 all round - friendly efficient service, lovely fresh food, great setting. We sat outside in the courtyard garden amongst lavender and flowering bushes, under a canopy of climbing plants.

My wife and I went here on Saturday. The service was fantastic, reasonable pricing and it wonderful sitting in the garden. I see they do breakfast too. We'll be back.

Lovely surroundings, but in my opinion you pay for it. Nice food, good looking prices but when you see the size of the portions it suddenly becomes expensive (in my eyes). Still might be worth a try though...

I was wondering if it was branded the Piano Cafe because there is a piano in there, or because it's quiet. Having Googled, I see that there is a piano in there. As much as I love the piano I really only like the ones that I'm allowed to play in public....must pop in and see what the rules are.

It is in nice surroundings and it has a piano in the bar but it was not playing when we went on a Sunday afternoon. It was a few months back and we sat outside and I thought the food was ‘ok’ – not great enough to rush back but not poor enough to never go back either. A few pet peeves though. I ordered a bottle of wine it was placed on the table, without glasses and unopened / poured. I asked for the glasses and they arrived later but I had to open and pour the wine myself. Had an extra portion of onion rings and from the top of my head its £3. So, for £3 we got 4 onion rings (the frozen variety deep fried). 75p per ring seems steep to me.

Enjoyed a nice meal in the Piano Cafe this weekend. I enquired about playing the piano and yes they have people in playing it sometimes during the day only, but not paid pianists. I wasn't quite confident enough to play it myself though, maybe after a little more practice. The piano is a Roland digital grand and has a variety of recorded songs that were playing when we were there. The meal itself was delicious and I found the menu had a good variety. Service was good. The only comment I have is that, as Avarice said, we ordered a bottle of wine and they just put it on the table, didn't even open it or pour any for us. Apart from that I thought it a lovely place to go and good value.

that whole wine thing is very odd. Maybe they dont have a full license to actually serve alcohol? they only sell "take-away" or something?

A brief enquiry reveals that this was an error on the part of inexperienced table staff and has been addressed with a little on the job training.

We had high hopes when we went here for lunch on saturday. Lovely setting, but let down by very inexperienced waiting staff and poor food. I had visions of home cooked meals - high quality, fresh ingredients etc. but my fishcakes and chips were both frozen and deep fried. My husband ordered the house burger, specifically asking for it without onions - it came piled high with onions. There are plenty of good restaurants in Hertford and for this to compete it needs to get the quality of the food right, and train waiting staff properly (they weren't rude, just very inexperienced). We won't venture back in a hurry.
