There were other incidents in the area over recent months. I know of a house further up North Rd that was burgled with the owners asleep upstairs a few months ago.

House burglaries always increase in a recession and now that cars are so hard to nick without the keys, thieves are risking entering your property to get the car keys. 2 acquaintances of mine, one in Bengeo, one in Hertford, got burgled recently while they were asleep upstairs, their cars were taken as well as anything of value downstairs like camera, phone, purse, laptop etc. Advice from the police is to take your handbag/wallet/phone up to bed with you, don't leave it downstairs and don't leave keys anywhere obvious.

A good point, Rachel. The other simple measures such as deadbolts are relatively cheap compared with the cost of a burglary too.

And it can only record 90 minutes at a time, or can you connect it directly to an external hard drive?

Steven, it's Herts Police who are giving the advice about making things difficult for thieves by hiding keys and valuables. If you know this to be wrong, you should tell them so they can stop putting householders in danger. James 007, leaving aside the difficulties of getting decent images of intruders in your house, what exactly would you do with any such info? Would the police do anything with it? I'm thinking about the recent local news coverage of a 60 year old man who found his own stolen property for sale on Gumtree and Herts police told him to meet up with the thieves and challenge them himself!

They are wrong and I'm surprised at that advice. If you do a quick search you'll find other police forces around the UK giving the same advice I have.
