bicycle service/repairs

Hi, Tried booking in at Marshalls Cycles for my usual bike service but they're busy until mid-June - not sure my bottom bracket will last that long. Does anyone know of anywhere else I can get my bike serviced in or around Hertford? Thanks.

Halfords or Highway cycles in Ware. I've given up with Marshalls. If you walked in there and offered them a pile of cash for nothing they'd have a reason not to take it. "I need a bike for my son." "Okay, bring him in and have him measured up" One week later. "Hi. I've brought my son to be measured up". "I don't think we have anything you can try. Here's a Giant catalogue. Choose a bike and we'll order it in." And then there was the classic..... "I'd like to buy a Giant Cypress for my wife" "We don't have the right size but we'll order it and call you". Time passess, no phone calls. I made numerous visits to the store during which they swore they'd left messages on my voicemail when they hadn't. Then I return after three months of repeated visits to be told as the summer had ended they won't have any more in stock until the following year. Then I return this Spring to find a 2010 Cypress in the shop. And has anybody else been invited by their staff to join in a game of throw the screwdriver into the empty box?

Interesting - I've never had a problem with them before. In fact they were most helpful when I needed an 8mm Allen Key to tighten my crank, going as far as fetching one that same afternoon from their Stevenage store as they didn't have one in stock in Hertford. Their servicing and repairs have always been good too, it's just that I can't afford the wait this time.

But did the guy have to phone the Welwyn store first and have you listen to him argue with the staff there?

ha ha - no. I work in Welwyn and have made the mistake of popping into the shop there - never again. Everything seems like a bit too much effort for the bloke in there.

Would not use Marshalls again. Highway Cycles in Ware are very good.

I have walked in on the 'screwdriver at the box' game. Quite scary and off putting.
