I recently received numerous birthday cards posted from various locations: London, Milton Keynes, Stevenage, Dunstable, Essex etc. None of these cards contained any gifts: cheques/cash/gift tokens etc, and to the best of my knowledge - all arrived at my home via Hertford sorting office. The one and only card that did contain a gift did not arrive! This isn't the first time that this has happened - I have even received cards in the past where the cheque has been removed, the envelope taped and then sent on to me. Now - call me suspicious - but it seems a bit odd that every other item that went through this sorting office arrived on time and intact! Likewise, when I have sent cards from Hertford, the odd ones that have contained cheques have gone missing. It's a very sorry state of affairs when you have to go to the added expense of recorded/gauranteed delivery just to ensure vulnerable cards are delivered. Has anyone else had a problem with Hertford? But how would people know that there is a cheque inside,when as you say,the other cards are intact and unopened.I haven't had any problems with this ,but I do have 2 or 3 days with no post and then receive 10 -20 items all on the same day,all posted 3,4 ,5 days apart?

Over Christmas I had a few parcels not delivered from Amazon etc. but couldn't say whether the problem was with the Royal Mail or Amazon! I did send a birthday card to my niece containing £30, and sent it recorded following the post office's advice and it never did get to her, when I tried to make a claim they said money is not covered! nothing I could do.........I suppose some postal workers see a card sent recorded delivery and guess it must contain cash, and somehow it gets lost. Taught me a lesson, never to send cah again.

I was sent some legal documentation in an A5 envelope a few weeks ago. It never arrived. I wondered at the time whether it was a problem at the source (Ipswich) or closer to home - sounds like it may be an issue at Hertford? Who would one speak to in order to raise concerns?

My friend has sent out a lot of Birthday invites, posted first class on Thursday and I do not know of one that has been delivered locally yet (some may have been but am not aware of them). Not sure about her friends further afield. I know there are no guarantees with first class but this cannot be right that so many have failed to get there. They were all in standard card sized pink envelopes.

The plot thickens. Having read through this topic I thought I'd ask my good friend if his 2 year old son has received the get well soon card we sent him after he had an operation last week. The card was slightly above average size as it contained a small chocolate lolly so my wife put 2 first class stamps on. She posted it on Tuesday 29th March and it still hasn't arrived at the address in Hertford. [:(]

I would just like to say that I have never had a problem, our postman (Bengeo) is great and we very rarely get anything that is not ours and have not had anything opened or missing as far as I know. Though I have had cards etc I send to my aunt in Cornwall be opened or not turn up, they are hand made so can feel as if there may be something in them! They of course could be opened anywhere between here and Cornwall so hopefully not before leaving hertford...............

It's arrived! The card we posted on 29th March reached its final destination on Saturday 16th April. It arrived in a bag saying sorry for the damage. It was split open down the side.

My documents arrived a couple of days ago - approximately 7 weeks late with the stamp un-franked?! Very relieved to receive them but goodness only knows what caused the delay

If the post is not delivered for any reason ,it normally gets sent to Belfast to get re-distributed from there,this is usually for damaged or badly addressed items
