Ask
The Clan Fandango sampled Asks wares on Friday evening and we were pleasantly surprised. The first time we tried it it was none too impressive so it was with some trepidation that we went in.
I had the Gnocchi special (good), Mrs F. a pizza (good), F. major Spag Bol (ok) F minor slept through it all. Service was good if a little rough around the edges.
Generally vfm ok....I would rate it a sound alternative to Pizza Express with a moderately better ambiance.

I've never had a bad experience with Ask.
And their takeaway pizzas are good value at £5. Why go to Domino's and pay more for stodge?

Visited ASK this evening around 6:30pm. Selected pasta dish arrived in less than 5 minutes, which suggests a microwave.
Food = Mediocre at best
Service = Good
VFM = Questionable

I guess my first impression was with some merit...but the place is full most evenings. Are people that unfussy?

im sure this debate has been had before but Im sure its got nothing to do with fussiness. Its got a lot to do with economics. I would gladly eat at the Hillside, or any one of the many fine restaurants I have had the privilige to have eaten in, everytime I eat out. Ask is average, no doubt about it, as is every other chain in existence. However when you are suprised by family, have a bunch of friends over or just feel plain lazy then you need an affordable alternative. Ok you are going to forget the food as soon as you walk out the door but that doesnt mean you cant have a pleasant evening get fed and enjoy the company.

We usually go to PE as you get a consistent standard there. It was full of screamy teenage girls so we tried Ask. Consistency is the problem maybe.
Still its miles ahead of Caffe Uno.

yes thats true.
I would rather go to ask than pizza express if forced to.
I will never eat at pizza express again, or baroosh for that matter.

By the way, Ask & Pizza Express are owned by the same company along with the Zizzi chain.

Just been to Ask with the children and hubby for hubby's birthday. Not very impressed. I'm sure I remember they always used to do a children's menu with plain pastas which the children always liked. Today they disclaimed all knowledge of ever having had a children's menu, leaving us forced to share a pizza with one and ask for a small portion of pasta for the other which was only half eaten.
I'm not sure they still want family custom, a family turned up asking for a table for 7 and were turned away even though there were lots of empty tables which could easily be pushed together.
Has anyone else noticed a change in Ask recently ? They always used to be great for nipping out for a reasonably priced family meal where everyone could find something to eat.
