Don't you have to declare an interest regarding that era?

Have to agree with you apart from the staff being rude. Pub is suffering badly. I believe there is a Elvis tribute act this Saturday so may be a bit more busy but apart from karaoke on Fridays and when Spurs are on the TV it is dead. Somebody may put me right but I believe this use to be Macs Show piece pub a few years ago (Now Baroosh..So im told) Regarding the price I agree that after the lord Haig it is expensive and fosters is very much hit or miss. Seems like a lot of people have voted with there feet and gone else where.

We went for a drink in here on Tuesday evening and it was dead Apart from the three of us, there was the long-haired old bloke in a shellsuit who appears to live in there (he's there every time I go) and one other person. How do they afford to stay open? Mind you, White Hart and Baroosh were also pretty quiet.

We were out in Hertford last night for dinner and it was pretty lively in Loch Fyne and as usual there were cars parked everywhere. Rest of town did appear a little quite on a walkabout after dinner. Noticed wardens ticketing cars at 8pm which might not help [:0]

The new manager will be in place within a couple of weeks, a refurb is due soon. At present the new manager is currently working at The Nags Head Covent Garden and is an ambitious and hard working person, a new look with a new manager, fingers crossed for a pub that has sadly been neglected by Brewery and previous managers.

Yes saw the extended patio - looks like it could be a nice place to sit if Spring ever decides to arrive! Apparently its opening again on Thursday 28th in time for Easter Weekend.

I stopped in for a quick pint Sunday lunchtime,to see what it's like. Basically it's had a paint job, some different furniture has been put in, and they have clearly tried to give it a more 'contemporary' feel. Menu seems to be focussed on burgers. They've also taken out all of the TV screens, with the exception of one which is tucked away in a corner (and was not switched on). There were probably about 10 people in there max. As Spurs were live on TV yesterday, I then went to the White Hart which was packed - not an empty seat in the place. So it looks like they've got rid of the football / karaoke / disco set to compete on the food front. Strange decision by McMullens me thinks.

Visited for lunch today. Quite a retro look inside which I liked. The pub was warm and cosy with a real fire on. Very impressed with the enhanced outside area overlooking the river, very nicely done and will be hugely popular on sunny days I'm sure. Much larger area than before the refurb. My waitress Jackie was very friendly, and said the Woolpack had been doing really well since it reopened. Good to hear as it's important to have successful businesses in the town. The menu is focused on simple, uncomplicated food and does have a good selection of burgers to choose from, but there are other choices including a nice Tapas style 'snacky' selection if you just want some nibbles with a drink. I had a delicious burger with cheese and french fries, freshly made with a lovely soft bun and washed down with some McMullens Cask Ale, sitting next to the real fire. Very nice indeed! Quick service too, one of the advantages of a simple menu. I think the revamped Woolpack will prove popular once it gets properly established and will be a good asset to Hertford, adding to the excellent selection of places to eat and drink, for which Hertford is plentiful. Will definitely go back, looking forward to having a drink on the River Terrace area once the sun starts shining!

Sorry Golden and Mrs T - you have lost me? Moved here less than 6 mths ago hence the choice of username. Is one not permitted to say something positive anymore without being treated with suspicion? People are all too frequently happy to post negative comments so I think positive comments should be encouraged. If this is the tone of the site, I shall be rescinding my membership very quickly! Social Media is a very dangerous animal it seems...

What a complete idiot you are robbo, clearly you get a kick out of being a 'cyber bully' and ridiculing other people like me who are trying to make a genuine contribution to others who might be interested in finding out about somewhere new. Anyway, I will no longer respond to any of your remarks and won't bother with this site any further. Get a life matey!

Since when was it up to you who can use this forum? I suggest if you have any evidence to support your theory then you contact the forum Admin rather than making baseless accusations against a new member. These responses to a staring member's first post are wholly unwarranted and unhelpful. He has been made to feel most unwelcome. Anyone thinking of contributing to this forum may easily be deterred from joining based on these responses. It is not necessary to be familiar with or have knowledge of previous posts to join the forum, or to be thick skinned. Anyone is free to join the forum and have an expectation of being treated with respect. Existing members who harass, bully, belittle and ridicule other members, especially starting members, can expect to have their membership here reviewed.

Is there any truth in the rumour that the revamped Woolpack has become the lunchtime hangout for the shady types from the seedier end of the local motor trade and lettings business?

Newboy, Clearly my attempt at humour - which can be rather sarcastic at times - has personally offended you and for that I apologise. Enjoy the forum.
