Had a trip to Gravesend with the team yesterday. Well worth the trip, a 7-50 win. Two played, two wins, but the big test comes on Saturday 18th when Hertford play local rivals Bishops Stortford. Stortford have also had a winning start to the season so there is a lot to play for.

If you weren't at Hoe Lane this afternoon, you missed another 69 points being scored. 57 of them went to Hertford and 12 were for North Walsham. It is true that Hertford have played 4 of the bottom teams in the league, but it is the 224 points Hertford have scored that put them there. Played 5, won 5, with another home game next weekend against Havant, the run may continue.

Dorking are next weeks opponents. They too have won all six games with bonus points and have played many of the same teams Hertford have played. Hertford have scored 42 tries to Dorking's 30. None of the teams I've seen this season have bossed Hertford around, any tries against have been mostly of Hertford's mistakes. It will be interesting to see how they cope with a team that may be able to impose their own plan on the match.

An enormous Ampthill team came to Hoe Lane for the first time and played their part in a real thriller. 29-26 to Hertford is how it ended and it was a very close fought game. Funnily enough he did get to have a couple of trots up the wing. The problem wasn't so much his speed as getting enough bodies around him to bring him down!

There's some excellent rugby being played at Hoe Lane this season with a very close battle for the top spot ensuing. The next home game is against Civil Service on the 13th Nov. Get down there for a good afternoon out. All England games will also be shown, if you prefer not to watch live sport!

The big lad (Junior!) at 5 for Staines was moved to the wing because Staines had three injuries, two quite bad and all of them to backs. Junior was the only player in the forwards with any experience as a winger, so he got the job. Goodness only knows who gave him experience as a winger, he was not quick, but it did take two players to stop him. He was actually a very nice guy as well.

Another win away this week. 32 - 0 at North Walsham. Hertford's 1st, 2nd and 3rd teams all played league games this weekend, all three teams won and scored 181 points for and had 12 points scored against them. Not bad.

The 1st XV are away to Havant this coming Saturday and then they have what is probably the most important match of the season.....at home to Dorking, who sit one place above Hertford at the top of the league. Hertford have won 13 out of their 14 matches played so far this season, away to Dorking. So it would be great if there was a big turnout at Hoe Lane for the return fixture.

Pre-match Supporters Lunch is fully booked! Post match entertainment and “Happy Hour” at the Club this Saturday evening Guitarist / singer Aaron Clarke making a very welcome return playing between 6 - 9pm. “Happy Hour” running between 7 - 8pm This is a huge game and could potentially decide who gets the top spot at the end of the season. As it says above the supporters lunch is fully booked (140 attending if the rumors are true)so I would imagine the crowd will be more than double that number by 3pm. Hopefully we will be able to celebrate vocally afterwards with Aaron Clarke who has played in the Masters House regularly and is a cracking entertainer!

You can sleep safely in your beds for another week. The big game ended 44-6 to Hertford. It was great afternoons rugby, with a big 650+ crowd and some great play on show. The bar was packed after the game and the after match entertainment, singer Aaron Clarke, was greatly appreciated by everyone enjoying the winning feeling. The Second team beat Dorking's 2's 84-7 and the Third team had a good win as well. Another season defining game next weekend, away to Ampthill, but for now we will enjoy being top of the table. To put the attendance in perspective......no match in the Scottish football third division was watched by as many as 500 yesterday and there were more supporters at Hoe lane yesterday than at half the Scottish second matches.

Im not sure comparing semi-professional association football matches in a country of 5 million people with semi-professional rugby matches in a country of 50 million is any perspective at all really . Research like it's 10 miles from Rangers/Celtic ? double the admission fee to HRFC ? a different sport ? good comparison ? As you say though , superb turnout and a great win for Hertford , will be gutted if they dont get promoted from this position .

A long away trip, even if the M25 was kind and didn't slow us down. A good performance from Hertford. Bracknell were well organised and tough, but the Blues prevailed 35-11. Other scores in the league mean that Dorking have fallen away a little and it is now Barnes and Hertford with a small gap at the top. Saturday sees another big weekend at the club, with the top four teams all playing at home. The 1sts are up against a Staines team that caused them real problems in the away game earlier in the season, the 2nds are playing Cambridge who are two leagues above them, the 3s have a top of the table clash against Hampstead who have only lost one game so far this season (against our 3rds of course!), and the 4s have another tough game against Saffron Walden. Lets hope that the club can produce a similar performance and atmosphere as when the four teams all played at home on Dorking Saturday in January: three victories, a close defeat for the 4s and good celebrations in the clubhouse afterwards.

The last senior game of the season, The Herts RFU Presidents Cup Final took place at Harpenden RFC on Sunday 1st May. Hertford ran out 40 - 5 winners against Tring. A summer break, some plans to make and a season in National 2 to look forward to.
