Litter - is there any hope?
Just witnessed two adults with two children walking along eating crisps. Both adults finished theirs and srewed up the empty packets and chucked them on the pavement in front of the children.
Seems like a petty thing to put on the Forum - but somehow it incensed me to see this. I guess I must be getting old and grumpy, but it is a bad example for the children though, surely? [:(]

Appalling. This sort of thing incenses me also. It just shows an utter disrespect for society and the environment. That might seem a bit strongly worded for a couple of crisp packets being thrown on the street but it's indicative of a general attitude...

Did you pick them up and hand them back saying "I think you dropped these" I would be tempted............... if I would be brave enough is another matter!

It's a disgusting habit and these people should be pointed out and embarrassed in the street. Not a petty subject at all. It infuriates me. Plenty of bins around !!

Yes its disgusting I hate seeing litter in the streets. I dropped my Kebab last night on the way back from the Stonehouse but I went back and swept it up today.
Some person did point out to me and said 'I think you dropped something' but I politely told them what I intended to do today.

I witnessed a heartwarming sight a few years ago. Someone in a queue of traffic in Mill Road casually threw some rubbish out of their car into the middle of the road. Unfortunately they threw it into the path of an oncoming police car! The police stopped and offered the driver some "advice".

I can see that Del Boy had good intentions to clear up his mess after the night before, judging by his post. Very rare, if it happened, which I am sure it did.

Observed from my shop, I'm afraid, so didn't get a chance to 'mention' it. Have done in the past though, as the alley between us and The Tavern looks (to some individuals) like a good place to lob various unwanted items.

I was very nearly beaten up for telling someone to pick up their litter in London many years ago. Now I tend to size them up and do a quick risk assesment first!

There is an almost identical thread running on Wareonline (I use both as am currently moving from Ware into my new house in Hertford - on Saturday!!!!!). Very similar sentiments.

not sure if anyone on the forum considers litter worth bothering about Arty - a while ago on this forum I said I would pick up all the litter on my road on the way home from the station each night. No big deal only about a couple of hundred yards along North road once a week. I asked if anyone else would volunteer to do another small bit on their own road. I couldn't believe the cynical replies I got - 'don't u think its the council's problem' etc. etc.
