Charity Bags
There was a [url="http://www.hertford.net/yoursay/topic.asp?ARCHIVE=true&TOPIC_ID=4068&SearchTerms=collections"]previous archived thread[/url] on the many "bogus" charity bags and I think the issues were sufficiently aired then.
I just wanted to say that the "Clothing Collections" van just came round our area (for the "dontdelay" variant of bags) and I was surprised to see that some people has indeed left out sacks for them and when he opened the back of the van to throw in the new sacks I saw that it was already piled up with full bags!
Why do people still do this? Maybe the message hasn't got out...

I havent bought a bin bag for months, I just use the bags they kindly pop through my door at no extra cost!

Dear Watch Member,
Hertfordshire Trading Standards have received information that Clothman Ltd are distributing leaflets in the Cheshunt area on behalf of BREAKTHROUGH BREAST CANCER.
This company is dissolved, therefore any clothing being left by consumers is not being collected by a legitimate trader. Please do not leave any bags out for collection. Take them to your local charity shops.

Apart from this forum and the neighbour hood watch, has anyone seen any warnings about these rogue collectors? I do not recall seeing any warnings in the Mercury. So perhaps part of the problem and the reason they continue to thrive is that the majority of people are simply giving their items in good faith and are not aware that they are trading companies and not true charities[?]

I did notice one "Collection Operative" take a bag from a nearby house then put the contents in to one of their own bags - I didn't see if it was somebody elses bag or just an unbranded bin liner, but it looked a tad suspiscious. Also I don't know how many old clothes these companies think we have as we seem to get at least 1 bag or leaflet per wrrk.

Perhaps the fake charity collection bags could be the answer to the brown bin maggot problem? But pllease ensure it is NOT a genuine collection first.
