Does anyone know of any election hustings in Hertford? When I was in Hoddesdon, the local church used to organise one.

The Mercury arranged one in 2005 at Castle Hall. They do not seem keen this time. If people ask them to, maybe they will think again. As an independent candidate who is completely new to politics I would love to have one to get the full political experience and give voters a chance to have a close up look at the candidates under a bit of pressure.

I think the problem maybe that you could put a 3 toed sloth up with a blue rosette on and it would win round here.

Carlos is right. There's little interest locally because it's obvious who's going to win, and our ridiculous voting system means that unless you vote tory your vote doesn't even count. I resent the fact that ever since I've lived in Hertford my vote has gone straight into the bin at every general election.

Wasn't the last General election the first time the Tories didn't have an absolute majority here (i.e if you added all the other votes together, they were still less than the Tory vote)? I don't really know my facts here so I'm happy to be corrected but I seem to remember it was quite a breakthrough at some point. So if only we could all agree on an alternative and all the others stood down, we could get the Cornwall-loving berk out. See how long he stayed living in the constituency then!
