I did wanna say I refuse to comment!!! There are 2 locally. One on the Westmill road, just past the Trout Farm opposite the turning for the 5 Lakes restaraunt and the other on the A414 coming towards Hertford between the Essendon Roundabout and the WGC roundabout. Personally the on at Westmill is easier to use.

Hope Admin won't think this is off-topic but I read in yesterday's papers about Freecycle, a scheme for giving away stuff instead of dumping it - that's stuff that might still have some use in it, obviously, like the electrical goods and furniture that charities won't take. Turns out there is a Stevenage branch of this global network! I might try it because I've got a perfectly nice cabin bed that I can't give away on my work intranet but I'm sure somone somewhere in the vicinity would be glad of it. Unless we really are all too posh in Herts to want a second hand bed. Anyway, Bengeobabe, I don't know what you're planning to take to the tip but if it is something that still has some potential use, maybe check out http://www.freecycle.org and perhaps someone will come and take it off your hands and save you the trip to the tip! Oh, and if anyone wants a cabin bed for nowt, just let me know!
