Recycling Computer Hardware
I have a couple of old computers, monitors, printers, etc which I would prefer to recycle rather than dump. Does anyone know anywhere local that might take them?

I think the municipal dump on Westmill Road can recycle this sort of thing

It depends how old they are, but you may be able to actually get some nominal cash back by taking them to SeeBay in Honey Lane off Maidenhead Street.
I got something for a DVD player I was thinking of dumping before trying them.
Otherwise there are various freecycle schemes that I'm sure other forum members will mention.

I know a charity that will gladly take old computers etc. Check out http://www.helping-gambia.org.uk They are based in Stanstead Abbots and have just provided a school in the Gambia with computers and the solar panels to power it. They are only a small charity but managing to help so many kids over there and they're always looking for help/ donations etc. and usually happy to pick stuff up.[:)]

Still got this stuff - Seebay closing down, the charity did not reply to my e-mail and the Council just said to take them to the dump.
Any more suggestions before I DO take them to the dump? I'm not entirely sure what happens to them after they get to the dump as they all seem to be left out in the rain - so I have my suspicions about the recycling promise [:(]

I don't think the council recycle the finished items, they recycle the materials used in their manufacture.

My children's school has just invested in loads of laptops for use inside the classrooms - PCs are old hat in schools now, unfortunately. Would have been a good idea though

I got rid of an old PC just recently on Freegle. It was 10 years old but there was still a lot of interest in it, I'm sure someone on there would be willing to take it.
