Yeah, it's cack isnt it. No doubt Steve'll have a guffaw at it :) Good luck to them though, but think they'll struggle. It's about time Discover hertford got onto twitter isnt it...

Gloss magazine flickered across my mind when I first saw this website. I've only spotted one typo so far though. As for Twitter, it has its uses. I use it passively for alerts to breaking news, specific local news and links to website content that is of interest to me but for which I may not think to google search. Of course, pro-actively, I use it as an outlet for asinine comments and lame witticisms to a generally, self-absorbed and disinterested audience in the hope of an occasional retweet of appreciation. Without it I may be tempted to clutter the pages of this site with inanities, so I highly recommend it to those hereabouts that, as yet, have no other vent. For businesses and websites it undoubtably has a practical use in driving traffic to a site. After all it worked for inhertford.com, a website with no current content that I would never have clicked through otherwise.

Their Gold Listing boasts "Just £19.99 P/M... This package could cost you £5000 elsewhere". Really??? [:0] I see nothing to suggest that this is anything other than another opportunist template and database driven listing website.

Why oh why... another incredibly poor attempt at a website. Even a free template would look better - no offense but that is truly awful and misrepresents what Hertford is about - irrespective of the Disability Discrimination Act it uses as an excuse for its design. Working in advertising myself, the age old comment of, 'you get what you pay for' is self evident in this case. Just because it is cheap doesn't make it a bargain.

Particularly impressive is the 'sales' dept for the advertising which provides no landline number, only a mobile and uses a Hotmail email account. Quality.

Marilyn has just done something that she says she doesn't like."critisies other websites" And "Discover Hertford" on hertford.net isn't exactly a ground breaking web design is it. http://www.freeindex.co.uk and http://www.freeindex.co.uk are by far the leaders in the business links field. And if someone wants to build and develope a smaller version for the local business community then good luck to them I say. I've looked at the site in question and its not that bad it just needs some content. Some people in this forum are sounding like they're in a school playground so lets pick on the new kid. tut tut

I might be missing something but I've never seen any value in business directories. I've personally never used one as if I need a business I search for it directly not go through a middle man. I think with the ease of advertising yourself on the www nowadays even the good old YP will start struggling in times to come, certainly their sales tactics are getting more and more desperate! I think if these types of sites want to survive they should try offering a period of advertising free, if any work comes through it then people will stay.
