'Ask' and 'Pizza Express' are good.

I'd agree with Loch Fyne, Ask and Pizza Express. Cafe Rouge are okay too.

With that attitude you're free to find them yourself.

What attitude? Simply because I prefer to dine in an atmosphere devoid of whining brats you wish to make me out as some sort of ogre?Dining out should be an adult pleasure devoid of annoying children. If you want to take your kids somewhere that accepts them...fine. I'm just asking for any recommendations for places that appreciate adult diners. By the way, the back bar in the Salisbury Arms bans them, and is always totally full!

Not all children are whineing brats, just as not all old men are sad, miserable, lonely gits with nothing better to do than make sweeping generalisations and piss everybody off.

I am a miserable old git. Can anyone recommend a miserable old git friendly pub or restaurant please? One that won't mind me going on and on throughout my meal about how children shouldn't be allowed in restaurants and how cats should all be put down and what's wrong with proper British food anyway, it's all political correctness gone mad and how much better things were in the 1950s etc etc.... Any suggestions please?

Pull your stockings up Nora! All children ARE whining brats...that's fine its part of having children, it's just that I don't want them around when I'm paying a fortune for a meal. As for sad miserable lonely gits...........well, I'd hardly be eating out with someone if you want to apply that label to me. And, if it pisses you off. Great!

He is very ugly on the inside, James. And a dinner partner is not evidence for not being sad and lonely. It could be a counsellor, or Thai bride? Ting Tong Macka Tang Tang "Harrow Mister Buzz".[:D]

Well, I guess it's not really surprising that James is apparently in the Falkland Islands, and Nora is in Finland. No one else would probably have them!! However, Nora, do tell about your experiences with counsellors, as you seem to have some knowledge of them.

Frankly I am surpirsed that anyone should seek recommendations for restaurants that were child un-friendly. If this is their preference then I am sure they already know of such places and do not genuinely need references, but are making a statement about their preferences. I have a child who has eaten in all Hertford restaurants in a well behaved manner. It is a shame that some people are so short sighted as to believe that all children have to run around in restaurants and require colouring in packs and play areas. Perhaps these people base their opinions on their own children or maybe simply a wider perspective is all that is required. Frankly I care little, I know what suits my son and my family and friends. Hopefully some shallow minded individuals will dare to venture beyond their havens and see families with children dining.

Agreed. I don't actually recall a single instance of children spoiling my enjoyment of a meal out, although I can't say the same for some 'adult' fellow diners I've experienced on a couple of occasions. Perhaps we shouldn't be too hard on buzz, he may have been brought up in the days when children were to be seen and not heard. Thankfully we've come a long way since then.

Well Ewoowar, you may be "surpirsed" (sic) that anyone should look for child unfriendly restaurants, but I am getting used to people who think the sun shines out of their childs unmentionable fundamentable orifice. Your child may be a refreshingly well behaved son, but as I don't have access to your diary, I will probably never experience your little darling being perfectly well behaved. In the meantime I don't want to put up with other peoples ill mannered brats. And yes, Dennismoore, I was brought up in the days when children were to be seen and not heard. I rue the passing of such days.

curiously when we were in devon in the summer, they did actually have a restaurant which said children not welcome. oddly it hardly seemed open at all. However i suspect that is more a reflection on the location, and the fact they probably didnt need the business, than anything about the children. Obviously in terms of bums on seats, an adult spends much more!

Handwritten sign on the door of an Indian restaurant in Evesham: "Every family with two or more children will have one child to eat free."
