As some of you may be aware the skate park in Hartham Common has been open for about 2 years now and is still consistently used by lots of people. I, and many of my friends, are very grateful for the park being built. However my issue is the lack of lighting at the facility. The nearest lamp post on the path next to the field hasn't been working nearly the whole time the skate park has existed. I heard that it was deliberately turned off by the council to stop "youths" from "hanging around" at night. To me, this doesn't make sense because; (a) If there is something for "youths" to do in the evening then they might not have to be hanging around in brightly lit areas causing trouble. (b) During the winter months the sun sets very early, leaving not much time for the facility to be used by anyone who has a job/ goes to school or college etc. I have also noticed the lighting for the childrens playground next to the skatepark is much better. All the street lamps are on and 2 of them have extra lights attached to the lamp posts. Why do young children need to have such a well lit playing facility? My ideas for a solution; Turn the street lamps on and move the lights from the childrens playground to the skatepark. What's the Hertford slogan? Pride in our past and faith in our future? [?]
