Christmas trees
Is anyone out there an expert on christmas trees? I'd like to know the best place to get a non-shedding needle variety and preferably from a local supplier that uses more sustainable farming methods.
Any thoughts anyone?

Something on Country file at the weekend, they interviewed a sustainable Xmas Tree farmer (?) and the Nordman Fir was his preferred variety for non shedding, colour and smell reasons. Not sure where they sell those locally from sustainable sources though.

Dane End.
Follow the Christmas tree shaped signs that say "From 1st Dec" from the roundabout at the junction of B158 and A602 towards Stevenage. They cut the tree of your choice. We had a superb tree last year and will be going there again this year. Very reasonably priced too.

Bengeo Nursery also do trees, from stumpy to tall, norwegian spruce (non-shredding variety). Prices start from £20.

There is a place just off Stanstead Road(B1502 on the way to Great Amwell/Stanstead St Margarets) that we looked at today. Dont know its name but best value I've found so far. Small trees are only £12.50 with bigger ones £16.50 - will be buying one from there next week...
TopPots at WestMill Farm (opposite the dump) is good also

Does anyone know is it ok to dispose of them by putting them in brown bin?

I believe its OK as long as the tree is chopped up to fit in the bin and the trunk is less than 3 inches in diameter. I've disposed of mine in this way for the past few years with no problem.

What if you don't have a brown bin. Will the council take the tree for you?

I think you have to take it to one of the recycling points, sometimes Riverside and Van Hages are also set up to take them.
