Yes I have to agree our refuse and recycling operatives (what is the correct term these days?) are always very courteous and helpful and put the bins back where they found them. Also can I praise Bahti in Ashley's in Maidenhead Street who also give a very good service and of course Michael and Pauline in Michael's jewellry repairs Railway Street and everyone at Albany Radio! If fact all the independant shops in the town seem to provide a very good service[;)] Also Hanscombe House Surgery and Hertford Country Hospital who have really been very good and caring with both my parents over the last year.

I go along with all of that. We do seen to have exceptionally careful "refuse and recycling operatives" and with the exception of Tesco, 40 years of using Hertford's shops and traders has never resulted in a bad experience.

The people in Gay's Newsagents are always very friendly. I'd also put in a vote for the Cornish Pasty place in Maidenhead St.

Hoorah what a lovely thread! Ok so I vote for Jackie in Lance James the Jewellers who always welcomes myself and Mr Leeks....and this is going to be controversial but all the lovely friendly staff at Hertford North who brighen up my morning, saving me a metro and providing my morning cuppa!

Sovereign Dry Cleaners. Nick at Caffe Nero. The young guy who stands outside the T-Mobile shop who sells the Big Issue is always polite even when you say No Thank You.

A random Bengeo Bin Man waved and smiled at me last week, just because I'd had to wait in my car for the dustcart to move. Having recently relocated from St Albans I was so shocked I didn't know how to respond. I think maybe I should have smiled and waved back - life is for learning.

Agree with Millie on the Fore Street petshop - the ladies are always good for a chat over a pigs ear and a bag of dog biscuits. Also the chap in Specsavers - I've been seeing him for over 8 years now. Nothing is too much trouble and he always has a pleasant smile and manner about him. Have always found the people in Waitrose to be good, too - recently received some new fish-tips from the lady at the fishmonger counter. Not forgetting the boys in the Parliament Sq kebab shop who always have our favourite table by the window ready for my friends and I in the early hours of a weekend morning.

I would like to vote for the evening ticket barrier guards at Hertford North (plus the nice lady in the ticket office). With one (female) exception they have all been very cheerful and helpful for the last couple of months.

you can really tell that Waitrose is part of the John Lewis group from the way the staff talk to you. They always refer to you as 'sir' (unless you're a woman, of course) and re always extremely polite and helpful. Unlike Tesco's where they almost seem to be offended if you ask for any help (with the exception of a few checkout staff, who are always friendly). The guys in Farrow&Farrow are always excellent too, as are the chaps in Shahenshah & Tikka Cottage

I nominate this site's moderators. The blog is always informative and the site is normally first result when Googling a local issue. The forum is managed at a level to allow the venting of spleens, but contain offensive mudslinging. I'd say that's a good service.

Lets not forget Riverside Garden Center. The staff in there always have a smile despite all their recent troubles. At the risk of being shot down in flames or starting an absolute riot, I have to say that I have always found tesco staff friendly and willing to help.

Girls in Deja-vu, New Sandwich shop very nice, especially Carol. Also Sandra on the veg market stall, deserves a mention.
