Any idea of the number of empty premises in town? I can think of a few; The old Haart estate agents. The corner unit next to the Corn Exchange. The old William H Brown. The old tyre fitting place opposite The Bolly-Sportsman The corner unit on the junction of Fore street and South Street (opposite the old tyre place). The Working Mans club. The shop next to the chinese takeaway on Cowbridge. Any others?

Premises formerly occupied by Your Move in Fore Street. There does appear to have been a marked increase in the number of shops closing recently. Question for Sloop: Who owns the most land in Hertford town centre? McMullens? Trinity College? The Queen?

Steve is this a trick question to test my knowledge of constitutional history. I think McMullens going by the number of letters I wrote asking for permission to string up lights. Not to mention the white letters posted on defaulting tenants. But doesn't HMQ own everything by default? And who is Trinity College? Isn't ignorance bliss? Another few empty premises: Ladies love lingerie (obviously not!), Hill House Hammond, and a few more on the horizon. So I am told.

There does seem to be more empty units than anytime in the past that I can remember. The rents and rates are terribly high. Coupled with the volume of pubs and I think we are seeing "The Hoddesdon Effect" on the way.....Its only a matter of time!!!!! [xx(][:)]

At least Gascoyne Way is only visible from certain parts of the town, The Tower monstrosity is the biggest thing for miles around.[:(]

Gascoyne Way is also the reason the town is dying, people who genuinely want to shop/work in Hertford get caught up in traffic for those that want to get to Harlow or go to WGC!!! A bypass is needed to allow us all to move. The Councillors in Hertford couldn't run piss ups in Breweries.. oh my.. what have I just said, McMullen's cannot run the town and brew.. well we know that!!! Unless something is done we will have no banks, no post office, no parking, CCTV everywhere, 24-7 yobs hanging around and nothing to buy.. How can we stop this happening??? Empty shops encourage vandalism and the last time it was this bad was 1979, when the Specials sang a little ditty called "Ghost Town" and we had 3million unemployed and it was bad.. is this history repeating itself.. over to you....

If Kwik Fit do return to their old site as reported in the Mercury at least that will mean one less night club/venue/bar/restaurant in town and one utility regained.

Hopefully Bollywoods will see the light, keep the Sportsman as a pub, and get one of the empty units for their Tappas bar or whatever they are planning
